Volunteer soldiers from 75 Texas cities and towns, in the tradition that had lasted years, once more reported for duty to fight for freedom and to end oppression in the world. The designation was changed to the 36th Division in , possibly in July. The unit was sent to Europe in July and conducted major operations in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
